The 12 Best AI Visibility and GEO Tools in 2026
Updated · 12 tools · prices checked on each vendor's own site on 6 October 2026
An AI visibility tool asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google’s AI Overviews and the rest the questions your buyers ask, and records whether your brand is mentioned, whether you are cited with a link, and who is recommended instead. A GEO audit looks at the other side: whether those engines can reach and understand your site at all.
The market went from a handful of startups to dozens of products in two years, and prices now run from free one-off checks to custom enterprise contracts. The useful differences are which engines are covered, how many prompts you get for the money, and whether the tool also tells you what to fix.
We make Webmatik, and it is on this list. It is held to the same rules as every other tool: what is free, what it costs, and where it falls short, in its own entry below.

How we put this list together
We read every price, prompt limit and engine list on the vendor’s own pricing page on 6 October 2026. Where a vendor showed euros to our European connection, we quote euros rather than guess the dollar price. Tools are ordered by how useful they are to a small or mid-sized business starting out with AI search, which favours a free or low entry point and a clear next step; enterprise platforms are lower on this list because of their price, not their quality. The engine list matters: Google says no special markup or AI files are required for AI Overviews and AI Mode, and OpenAI’s documentation says ChatGPT search depends on its OAI-SearchBot crawler, not GPTBot, so a tool that only checks training bots measures the wrong thing.
Tracking or auditing: which do you need?
Trackers run the same set of prompts on a schedule and chart your share of voice over weeks. They are worth it once you know AI search matters for your category and you are working on it. Audits start one step earlier: can the search bots of ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity reach your pages, can Google show a snippet of them, is the content quotable, and what do the engines answer today. If you have never checked, start with an audit; if you already know where you stand, a tracker shows whether your work is paying off.
Whatever you choose, read the results as a direction, not a precise number: AI answers vary between runs, accounts and countries, and a few dozen prompts are a sample of your market, not all of it. Google Search Console now shows your impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Bing Webmaster Tools shows Copilot citations; both are free and worth checking alongside any of these tools.
Free ways to check before you pay
Semrush’s AI Visibility Checker (3 checks a day) and Ahrefs’ free checker give a quick read on any brand. HubSpot’s AI Search Grader scores how models describe a brand, though it asks the models about you rather than running buyer questions with web search. Scrunch offers a free AI site audit, AthenaHQ a free tier with $25 of credits, and Webmatik’s free check scores AI readiness with every other category of your site.
Frequently asked
What is an AI visibility tool?+
Software that sends buyer-style questions to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews, and records whether your brand is mentioned, whether it is cited with a link, which competitors are named and which sources the answers rely on. Most run the same prompts on a schedule so you can see the trend.
Which AI visibility tool is best for a small business?+
Start with a free check (Webmatik, Semrush or Ahrefs) to see where you stand. For ongoing tracking on a small budget, Otterly.AI starts at $29 a month and Webmatik’s AI Visibility plan at $29 a month adds the site audit and fixes; Peec AI and SE Visible suit teams that need more prompts.
Do I need llms.txt or special schema to appear in AI answers?+
No. Google says there are no additional requirements for AI Overviews and AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet, and no special structured data or AI text files are needed. Crawler access for the search bots, clear answers on your pages and mentions on sites the engines trust matter far more.
Why do these tools show different results for the same brand?+
They cover different engines, use different prompts, collect answers through the API or the browser interface, and run from different countries. AI answers also change from run to run. Compare trends within one tool rather than numbers across tools.
Prices are as each vendor lists them, before VAT, checked on 6 October 2026.
